Then peel and dice the onions
Grill, pan or oven? This is how the preparation works
According to American tradition, burger patties are prepared on the grill. This works best in direct heat over the glowing coals. The grill should already be well heated for an optimal temperature. This will make the patties nice and crispy on the outside and keep them juicy on the inside. As soon as the meat comes off the grid easily, you can turn it once. Do not move the patty back and forth unnecessarily on the grill, otherwise the meat will lose its liquid and become dry. Let the patties rest, covered, for five minutes before adding them to the rolls.
Of course, you can also prepare burger patties in the pan. To do this, heat oil in a pan and fry the meat on both sides for about 4 minutes. Here, too, the following applies: only turn once and let rest for five minutes before topping.
It’s faster in the oven. While the patties are baking in the oven, you can take care of preparing other side dishes. The preparation works best with the grill function or with top and bottom heat. Avoid circulating air, otherwise the patties will be too dry. The cooking time depends on the performance of your oven. As with the grill and in the pan, the meat should only be turned once.
Vegan burger patty recipe
You don’t necessarily need meat for a tasty burger. With this recipe for kidney bean patties you can add variety to the bun. For around ten patties you will need the following ingredients:
2 tins of kidney beans (drained weight 250 g each) 125 g mushrooms1 carrot1 onion3 tbsp dark soy sauce70 g oatmeal3 tbsp flour2 tbsp tomato paste2 tbsp vegetable oil2 tsp paprika powdersalt and peppercumin, coriander
(Source: Vegan Cuisine: 100 Recipes. Parragon, 2013)
How it works: patties made from kidney beans
Drain the kidney beans and transfer them to a large bowl. Depending on the desired consistency, puree the beans with a hand blender or mash them with a potato masher. Next, cut and dice the onion. Clean the mushrooms and cut them into small pieces. Now peel the carrot and roughly grate it. Alternatively, you can cut the carrot into small cubes.
Heat the oil in a pan and sauté the onions for two minutes until translucent. Add the mushrooms, carrots and the paprika powder and continue to fry for about four minutes, until the vegetables are cooked through. Mix the fried vegetables with the beans and add the oatmeal, flour, soy sauce, tomato paste, and coriander and cumin. Season the mixture with salt and pepper. Knead all the ingredients together, preferably with your hands. Caution: Let the hot vegetables cool down a little first!
Now the patties are shaped as described above and cooked on the grill, in the pan or in the oven. If the batter is still too soft, add more flour and oatmeal.
Tip: If you prepare the vegan patties on the grill, coat the grid with a little oil beforehand. So they don’t get stuck.

What would a perfect burger be without a crispy bun? We explain how you can bake the so-called burger buns yourself. You should plan enough time for this. The result can be seen and, above all, tasted. For four rolls you will need the following ingredients:

Burger buns – step by step
For the first step, dissolve the yeast in the lukewarm butter or soy milk. Gradually stir in flour and salt. Knead everything into a smooth dough. Then place this on a floured work surface and knead it with your hands for two minutes. Put the batter in a bowl and cover with cling film. Let the dough rise in a warm place for an hour.
Then it is kneaded vigorously again. Shape the dough into a roll and divide it into four equal portions.adoption argumentative essay Now form balls from the dough portions. If you like, you can roll the balls in sesame seeds. Place the pre-formed rolls on a baking sheet lined with baking paper. Let them go under foil for another 2 hours. Make sure that there is enough space between the rolls, otherwise they will bake together later.
Preheat the oven to 220 degrees with top and bottom heat. To ensure that the rolls rise nicely and are particularly crispy, place an oven-safe dish filled with a little water on the bottom of the oven. When the water boils and clouds form, put the rolls in the oven. Then close the door again quickly so that no water vapor can escape. The homemade burger buns are ready after about 13 minutes.
Make sauces – according to your taste
You can make delicious burger sauces yourself in just a few steps. Canadian chef at McDonald’s Dan Coudreaut reveals the ingredients for the typical Big Mac sauce: "Mayonnaise, a relish made from pickled cucumbers and classic yellow mustard are mixed together. The whole thing is flavored with a little white wine vinegar and a heaped teaspoon of garlic powder, onion powder and paprika powder."
Are you wondering how you can prepare traditional cucumber relish yourself? No problem, here is the recipe for a glass (300 milliliters):
1 cucumber, 1 red onion, 1/2 bunch of dill, 5 tablespoons of sugar, 50 ml of white wine, vinegar, salt and pepper
First, peel and dice the onion. Then wash and peel the cucumber. Cut these in half and scrape out the seeds. Cut the remaining pulp into small cubes. Mix the cucumber pieces with the onion, sugar and white wine vinegar in a saucepan. Season everything with salt and pepper and let the relish simmer for about 12 minutes. In the meantime, wash the dill, chop it into small pieces and add it to the other ingredients at the end of the cooking time. Pour the relish into a jam jar rinsed with hot water and close the lid tightly.
Alternatively, you can also make simple sauces based on yoghurt, crème fraîche or quark. Fresh garden herbs provide a special aroma.

In the summer of 2019, Bavarian farmers complained that their cucumber plants were infected with an unknown disease. The plants barely bore any fruit, the leaves died. In most of the herds, the infection rate was 90 percent. The result: the cucumber harvest collapsed by around half.
Researchers at the Leibniz Institute DSMZ in Braunschweig are now reporting that they have been able to isolate the cucumber virus in the affected plants without any doubt. This bears the scientific name Cucurbit aphid-borne yellows virus (CABYV).
Virus is transmitted by aphids
CABYV was discovered in France as early as 1988. The pathogen is transmitted by aphids and infects cucurbits. An infection with the cucumber virus leads, among other things, to a lack of chlorophyll and leaf thickening.

According to the researchers, not only cucumbers, but also zucchini and pumpkins could be threatened in Germany this year. Since the virus cannot be combated directly, the most effective way to prevent aphid infestation is.
